These Girls Are On Fire

After some late minute changes to the venue and start time wellingborough found themselves to have a full team arrive at the correct venue before the new start time without anyone getting lost. Even Georgia made it eventually without too many issues.
To only arrive at the game and instantly gain dick of the day by unanomous vote before the game had even started due to her incompatance to listen and understand any convocations.

During the warm up the girls started strong with many shots on target, only to be met with the wall of Mel in goal who later earned Man of the match with her outstanding performance.

Wellingborough lost the toss but started the game strong with alot of early pressure being placed upon Rugby by Jo Chapman and Claire Gav (sorry you will forever be known as that). Wellingborough gained the first short corner of the game only to be shut out by the defence of Rugby. This defence didnt stay strong for long, with a spectacular run from midfeild by Jo chapman down the right hand side to put a lovely weighted ball into the path of a on running Megladon to slot home bottom corner. Much to Georgia's disappointment Meg claimed the goal as her own.
With the added confidence the girls pressed on keeping large amounts of pressure on the rugby defence holding it in their half for long periods, but being unable to add to the score line.
Rugby got into their stride and found a way down the left side entering the D to gain a short corner of their own. Wellingborough lined up strong, the ball got pushed out to the unsuspecting striker before she had any chance to control it she was met by the megladon with a superb stick block to deny the shot.
Wellingborough soaked up the rugby pressure and found a way out of their own half by a beautifully executed aerial by Cathy which found its way to Gav who found Emily chapman out on the right wing who drove at the Rugby defence with the support of Georgia. This passage of play resulted in a number of free hits around the attacking 23 which found its way into the D to find Alex in front of the keeper who proceeded to hit the deck as if she had be shot, only for Alex to put it off the keepers leg guard for a long corner. Another link up play between Jo and Gav saw another blinding bannana run from Jo into the D only to be cut out by a relieved defender.
Rugby went on another passage of play pressing the Wellingborough defence once again, only to be met by Kazza who stood strong in the tackle but unfortunatly leaving her foot in the way resulting in another short corner.

Half time was called Wellingborough relieved for the breather, only to be met with coach pauls words of wisdom before he had to make a run for his own game.
The points were made on what needed to be worked on and the girls reset for the second half.

Again the girls started strong putting early pressure on the opposition, working their way up the pitch towards the attacking D. A turn over in play saw Rugby go on the attack and much to the wellingborough defence they found the goal themselves.
Wellingborough re grouped and went again, having broke from defence through to the attack, with good play from Georgia and Evie holding up the ball for Sue and Emily to support, they were met tackle by tackle by the Rugby defence.
Rugby applied alot of attacking pressure to the wellingborough defence which stood strong with exellent tackles by Kazza, Cathy, Maisie and Meg; Rugby were not reward for their attack efforts which saw wellingborough break from defence with a long ball from Gav on the 23 staight to Emily up top who drove the ball wide finding a gap in the rugby defence which resulted in a D penertration sending the ball across the goal passed the stranded rugby keeper to find Sue on the back post for her to miss a open goal.
Again Rugby attacked in waves which resulted in them having a few attempts on target only to be met by the wall of the wellingborough keeper who made some excellent saves to keep the score at 1-1.
Rugby set up a high press on the Wellingborough hit out, forcing the girls to go round the back and find alternate routes, with passing from Kazza and Meg the ball found its way up the pitch utilising the wings with some beautiful passing triangles the ball found its way to Gav on top of the D to shimmy passed the standed rugby defence and put the rugby keeper on her arse to put the score to 2-1.
Following the goal Rugby came out firing once again to put alot of pressure on the wellingborough defence which called Mel into action once again resulting in her taking a ball to the knee, she managed to regain herself only to sucome to pain from her knee which sent her crippling down in pain magicly loosing her helmet in the process to put a stop to the rugby attack.
Once Mel had put herself together Wellingborough went on the charge again with blinding runs from the whole team to work the ball up to the attacking D. With good hold up play for Jo the ball was knocked out for a long corner, which saw Sue on point to slot the ball to Gav stood top D to work her magic once again and find the back of the net to put Wellingborough 3-1 up.
The girls stood strong till the end with good time management skills by Kazza to take the whole 2 mins left of the game to get ball to take a hit out.
